Is this YOUR year? Is this the time for you to achieve what you desire? It can be when you learn to take charge of your time and your life through easy adaptable steps that work for you. Everyone is different in their aspirations and motivations and what works for one may not for another. The main focus is consistency, organization, and effectiveness with easy suggestions to start with a simple plan that works for you. Don't be too ambitious - set small goals that lead to greater success. Keep it simple and build in fun and relaxation to enjoy life in all its aspects.

Personal Goal Setting - decide where you want to be in 6 months, 1 year and even 10 years both personally and professionally. Goals give you a destination and vision to work toward. When you know where you want to go, you can manage your priorities, time and resources to get there. Goals help you decide what is important and what is a distraction.

To Do Lists... and not-to-do lists! Break big jobs down into small steps so that each day you are moving toward completion and minimizing procrastination. Prioritize according to what is most important and realize that priorities will change on a daily basis. It does not matter - you will always be working on the most important thing. Say NO to things that can be delegated and avoid the urge to micromanage every activity.

Multitasking - forget about it!! It can take 20-40% more time to finish a list of jobs when you multitask, compared with completing the same list of tasks in sequence. To avoid errors and sloppiness, stays focused on the job at hand and give it your full attention. Some people get an adrenaline rush from being busy. The problem is that an "addiction to busyness" rarely means being effective, and it can lead to stress. Working in sequence gives you a constant flow of energy for all you want to do without the rush and the crash.

Give it a break It's impossible for anyone to work 8-10 hours straight and produce high quality work without taking a break to rest, recharge and refocus. Breaks provide valuable down time to think more creatively and work more effectively. Schedule a five minute break every 2 hours - go for a quick walk, rehydrate, or just meditate and clear your mind. Allow ample time for meals and make your choices fit into your personal health goals. Let it all work together for you.

"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot." - Michael Altshuler
