Distorted Thinking That We All Do When We're Not At Our Best - "Always Being Right"

In this kind of distorted thinking you are usually very defensive. You must continually prove that your viewpoint is correct, that your assumptions about the world are accurate and that all of your actions are correct - no exceptions! You aren't interested in the possible truth of any opposing opinion. Every decision you make is right, every task you perform is perfect and competent. You never make mistakes and will go to great lengths to hide any that may reflect back on you in any way.

If you are using this mode of distorted thinking, your opinions rarely change because you refuse to hear new information. If the facts don't fit what you believe, you merely ignore them. The need to always be right makes you very hard of hearing. It also makes you lonely because being right seems more important than an honest, caring friendship or relationship.

What area of your life or what current or past situation may be causing you angst due to always needing to being right? What is another way to look at it?
